1050 Angus MacDonald

Biography

Defender MacDonald was City’s sole permanent signing during the January 2018 transfer window.  While Ehab Allam’s impecunity in the face of imminent relegation was startling, the signing of MacDonald from Barnsley was nonetheless positive and he slotted straight into the frugal back four fashioned by boss Nigel Adkins.

Born and raised in Hampshire, MacDonald was a youngster at Reading where he came to the attention of Nigel Adkins for the first time.  After a series of loan spells but no first team breakthrough at the Madejski Stadium, MacDonald dropped down to the non-Leagues and signed for Salisbury City where he signalled his intent by being sent off minutes into his debut.  He went on to become a first team regular at Salisbury, and after one season he headed west to signed for newly relegated Conference National side Torquay United.  After two successful seasons in Devon he signed for Barnsley in Summer of 2016, where he soon became first team captain in 2017.

Although he qualifies for Scotland, MacDonald won U16 and U19 caps for England while at Reading.
