1019 Dieumerci Mbokani

Biography

Full name Dieudonne Mbokani Besua, Mbokani is an Congolese front man that joined the Tigers on a season-long loan in August 2017.  A willing worker and a strong presence at the top of the field, Mbokani nevertheless failed to impress and, more crucially, failed to score for Mike Phelan’s side.  After blotting his copy book with a silly sending off Dieumerci fell out of favour and struggled to forge a place in the City XI when Marco Silva took charge.

Mbokani started his career with clubs in his home city Kinshasa, and after a productive loan at Belgian side Anderlecht he signed a permanent deal for rivals Standard Liege.  After a brief spell at Monaco he returned to Belgium and signed again for Anderlecht, maintaining an impressive ‘goal every two games’ record.  In 2013 he moved to Dynamo Kiev and after two seasons of more goals in the Ukrainian League he spent a season long loan at Norwich City prior to a similar deal with Hull City.

Mbokani made his international debut for DR Congo in 2005 and has a similarly impressive goals record for his nation as he has for his clubs.  After a close encounter with the Brussels Airport terrorist bombing in 2016, when he was en route to international duty, he stepped down from the DR Congo squad for a while but returned for the 2017 African Nations Cup.
