Scottish international goalkeeper McGregor was signed in July 2013 by Steve Bruce’s Tigers to help build a squad ready for the challenges of a Premier League return. He slotted into the first team immediately and other than spells of injury (including a nasty whack in the kidneys from future team mate Mo Diame in March 2014) he stayed there for three seasons. When City again bounced back to the Premier League in 2016 McGregor was out of favour with caretaker boss Mike Phelan and when Cardiff keeper David Marshall was signed by City, McGregor went the other way on loan a few months later. Greegsy was restored to the first team in 2017 by new boss Leonid Slutsky.
Originally from Edinburgh, McGregor signed as a teenager for Glasgow Rangers and enjoyed fourteen years at Ibrox, spanning league titles, European glory and in the later years a steep decline following boardroom malpractice. in 2012 he moved to Turkey and signed for Besiktas, from whom City bought him a year later.
McGregor made his debut for the Scotland senior side in May 2007, following a string of under-21 appearances, and for several years has battled for the first XI jersey with a variety of contenders including his City teammate David Marshall.
