981 Danny Graham

Biography

Striker Graham was bought to City on a season long loan to add goals to the Tigers side returning to the Premier League for a second spell.  While clearly powerful and capable, Graham suffered a poor run of form and did not contribute a goal until he tapped home a valuable equaliser against Swansea, which he failed to celebrate due to his former club loyalty.  He drifted out of the side after the January signings of Nikica Jelavic and Shane Long, his last game a suitably ineffectual showing in the FA Cup fourth round at Southend United, where arch poacher Matty Fryatt showed how it was done.

Hailing from Gateshead but raised in the footballing sense by Chester le Street Town and then Middlesbrough, Graham struggled to add goals to his undoubted physical attributes until a successful loan spell at Carlisle in 2007.  In the summer of that year Graham switched permanently to the Cumbrians where his prolific form continued for two seasons.  By 2009, upwardly mobile Watford had acquired his services and goals kept flowing.  Two further year on Graham switched to Swansea where he was an initial success but then began a long goal drought that spanned the end of his time at Swansea, the start of his spell at Sunderland and his initial three months at City.

On expiry of his loan Graham returned to Sunderland and played a support role for two more seasons, and also enjoyed a successful loan spell back at his boyhood team Middlesbrough.  On expiry of his contract in 2016 he signed for Blackburn Rovers where he continued to score goals, but not enough to prevent their slide into League 1.

Graham won a solitary England under-20 cap in 2005.
