980 Maynor Figueroa

Biography

Honduran full back Figueroa joined the Tigers in June 2013, playing an important role in City’s preparations for their Premier League return.  Figueroa was an ultra-reliable player who performed reliably throughout much of his first season, although his form did dip after he experienced a family bereavement and was temporarily forced to the return to his home country.  As a result he fell out of favour during his second season and left the Tigers in the Summer of 2015.

Figueroa came to England in 2008 with Wigan after a domestic career at Victoria and Olimpia.  He performed reliably for the Latics, scoring a memorable goal against Stoke from the halfway line during December 2009.  His contract expired in June 2013 as Wigan were relegated.

Figueroa switched the Major Soccer League in the USA after his spell at the KCOM Stadium, playing for Colorado Rapids and then captaining FC Dallas.

Maynor made his international debut for Honduras in 2003 and was a regular for many years, playing in the 2010 and 2014 World Cup finals, and the 2012 Olympics.  Prior to his senior career Figueroa played regularly at under-20 and under-23 levels.
